HD Relay helps SurfMiami.com Show Off its Shores in High Def |
Surfmiami.com, one of the longest running and most trafficked surfing websites in Miami Beach, FL has for years provided a surfcam of realtime video clips of the surf conditions on the world famous South Beach. Surf Miami used the old hardware/software that was available at the time to allow users to watch 10-second video clips of the surfing beach between 1st and 3rd streets that would refresh every 3 minutes. Surf Miami wished to upgrade their surfcam hardware and software providing their users the most premiere live video streaming experience available for surf and stand-up paddle enthusiasts to check ocean conditions; and for general entertainment watching the lively activity of this beach hotspot packed with models, celebrities and jet-setters from around the globe. In addition, during the BP Gulf oil spill disaster, Surf Miami had numerous requests from area travel organizations and websites to license and re-broadcast the Surf Miami live video stream to show the world that South Beach beaches were still open and alive with tourists.
HD Relay designed a system around its eLiveStream video rebroadcasting service with a customized Flash interface. Using an Axis P5534 PTZ HD camera, Surf Miami enjoys 18x optical zoom and HDTV quality live images. Coupled with a state-of-the-art Dotworkz D2 Heater/Blower camera housing, the enclosure features a thermoplastic fiber composite construction that will not rust or corrode and provides optimal protection in the hot and humid Miami Florida climate. In its first full month, the new Surf Miami surfcam video stream attracted over 30,000 viewers. The response to the system upgrade from Surf Miami users was phenomenal. The high-definition user-controlled tilt-pan-zoom features increased Surf Miami views, user time on site and has become not only a tool for beachgoers to check surf conditions at this South Beach hotspot, but has become an interactive entertainment experience.
